U cilju da napravi dobar film o seksu, redatelj John Cameron Mitchell okrenuo se prema polu dokumentarnom stilu i stvorio film koji prikazuje seksualne navike ljudi koji žive u New York-u. Shortbus ima originalan pristup toj temi kroz dobro odabranu glumačku postavu, koji su pripomogli nastajanju priče o diskonekciji ljudske seksualnosti. Muško ili žensko, hetero ili homo, likovi priče pronalaze jedni druge, a time sami sebe - da bi se svi okupili u «underground» klubu zvan Shortbus u svijetu glazbe, umjetnosti, politike i seksualnog karnevala gdje su svi pozvani da se pridruže. Shortbus je film koji svog gledatelja pita koliko je seksualni život važan da bi se čovjek osjećao sretnim.



Ukratko…

Jamie (PJ DeBoy) and James (Paul Dawson), gay par koji imaju probleme u svojoj vezi, odlaze kod Sophia (Sook-Yin Lee) na seks terapiju, a ona sama nikad nije doživila orgazam. Nakon njenog ispada pred obojicom, oni je pozovu u klub Shortbus. Sophia i njen muž Rob (Raphael Barker) odluče otići, a time započinju avanturu kroz seksualno samozadovoljavanje. Dominatrix Severin (Lindsay Beamish) igra glavnu ulogu u novonastaloj situaciji između Sophie koja pokušava dobiti svoj prvi orgazam i Rob-a koji želi ostvarit svoje skrivene fantazije. Jamie & James upuštaju se u odnos sa još jednim muškarcem. James koji pati od velike depresije tjera Jamie-a u takav odnos kako ne bi ostao sam kad on počini svoje samoubojstvo.

Numerous New York City-dwellers come to the exclusive club Shortbus to work out problems in their sexual relationships. Rob and Sophia are a happily married couple, except for the fact that she has never experienced sexual climax. This irony follows her to work, because she is a couples counselor who frequently has to deal with the sexual issues other couples have. Two of her patients are Jamie and James, a gay couple who have been monogamous for five years and counting. James wants to bring other men in to the relationship, and his own history with depression may hint at an ulterior motive. Ceth (Pronounced like Seth) may be the perfect addition to their family, but Caleb, a voyeur from across the street, may have his own ideas about that. Sophia visits Severin, a dominatrix with secrets of her own to reveal.
